Kenya

Overview

CHAI began working in Kenya in 2005, and is supporting the government to effectively and efficiently develop scalable solutions to deliver lifesaving health services. We have helped increase access to treatment and diagnosis for HIV, including early infant diagnosis and viral load monitoring. We are helping ensure that children receive the correct diagnosis and treatment for diarrhea and pneumonia, two of the largest killers of children under five. We are helping the government to introduce new vaccinations and are using enhanced surveillance and improved treatments to tackle malaria. To save the lives of women, we are supporting the government to increase access to reproductive health tools and we have helped the government better plan and forecast needs for optimal medications for diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis.

Most recently, Kenya gained access to CHAI-negotiated lowered costs for lifesaving chemotherapies for cancer. CHAI is providing technical support to help the government to better diagnose treat the disease, including guidelines for care at cancer treatment centers.
