Ethiopia

Overview

CHAI’s ability to move quickly and flexibly has enabled us to work with the government in Ethiopia to develop and implement innovative programs that target the country’s needs. Since 2005, we have supported the government to increase access to treatment and care for adults and children living with HIV and AIDS. We have helped strengthen health systems and build the country’s health financing mechanisms and health workforce on the path to universal health coverage. We are working to prevent the deaths of women and children through increasing access to lifesaving vaccines and medicines and tools to combat pneumonia and diarrhea. We are providing targeted interventions and health worker training to reduce mortality among mothers and infants during pregnancy and birth. Our nutrition program is helping improve the livelihood of farmers by providing access to better agricultural knowledge, reducing harvest and post-harvest losses, strengthening co-operatives, and linking production to nutrition.

Our most recent program, launched in 2016, aims to standardize treatment and care for cancer, starting with an initiative to expand access to breast cancer treatment in both urban and more difficult-to-access rural areas.
