CHAI began supporting the Ghanaian government in 2018 to establish its maternal, newborn, and reproductive health program. We worked alongside the Ministry of Health to improve uptake of contraceptives by introducing a new family planning product to its national family planning mix. DMPA-SC is an easy-to-use injectable that protects against pregnancy for three months. Since then we have worked with the government to improve access to quality diagnostics, treatment, and care across different health programs. These include childhood cancer, sickle-cell disease, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

CHAI, together with partners, is also supporting Ghana to strengthen overall pediatric treatment through resource planning and supply chain management for pediatric chemotherapies as well as hospital capacity building focused on quality of care, patient education, and retention.

Moving forward, CHAI will foster stronger public-private partnerships to improve both the demand and supply side of diagnostics, treatment, and care. It will also work to improve health financing in the country by helping the government identify operational gaps, track its spending, and manage its finances better.
