Mozambique

Overview

CHAI has been working with the government in Mozambique since 2002 to improve health services in the country, beginning with diagnosis and treatment for children living with HIV. Through innovative programs and by leveraging public-private partnerships we have helped transform health service delivery through mobile technology, improved supply chains, and identified cost efficiencies within the national health system.

CHAI supports technologies, such as point-of-care testing, to diagnose and link patients to treatment more quickly. Today, over 90 percent of eligible children tested on a point-of-care device are initiated on treatment the same day. This innovative program helps health facilities rapidly diagnose diseases such as HIV as well as life-threatening obstetric emergencies. We are also working with the government to develop and strengthen digital systems to improve disease surveillance, management, and response.

To ensure quality vaccines are reaching children, we help the government improve cold chain systems. We are also working with the Ministry of Health and partners on a new and more effective control for malaria, with the goal of pre-elimination.

We are also working to improve medical oxygen supply, prevent childhood malnutrition, optimize testing for pediatric leukemia, promote assistive technologies, and facilitate life-changing corrective procedures for children with cleft lips and/or cleft palate disabilities.
