“We are honored to have Ms. Dahl join the CHAI Board of Directors, carrying on CHAI’s long relationship with Partners In Health,” said CHAI CEO Dr. Neil Buddy Shah. “Her experience leading one of the world’s most highly regarded global health nonprofits and her passionate belief in everyone’s right to health, no matter where they live, will be invaluable to CHAI’s mission to save lives.”
PIH is a global health non-profit dedicated to delivering high-quality care to those who need it the most. PIH operates in 12 countries across four continents with a focus on strengthening public health systems to ensure patients receive the care they need and deserve in their homes, neighborhood clinics, and regional hospitals.
Said Ms. Dahl, “Since the founding of the Clinton Health Access Initiative twenty years ago, I have witnessed their work in partnership with governments to save lives and strengthen health systems around the world. I’m honored to join the Board of Directors in support of CHAI’s teams and programs across the globe.”
About Ophelia Dahl
Ms. Dahl co-founded Partners In Health in 1987 alongside Thomas J. White, Todd McCormack, former World Bank president Dr. Jim Yong Kim, and the late Dr. Paul Farmer, who also sat on CHAI’s board. PIH’s history, from its origins in Haiti’s rural Central Plateau, where Ms. Dahl met Paul Farmer over thirty-five years ago, through its expansion to work on four continents and global movement for the human right to health, was captured in the feature length documentary, “Bending the Arc.”
Ms. Dahl is a Trustee of Wellesley College, her alma mater, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Equal Justice Initiative. She is a recipient of the Union Theological Seminary’s Union Medal (2006) and, together with her PIH colleagues, the Hilton Humanitarian prize (2005). She was also named in 2011 by the Boston Globe, as one of the three Bostonians of the Year for her organization’s response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
