Joshua Chu is the Chief Operating Officer at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). In this role, he oversees global operations, including Program Performance, Talent Development, Information Technology, Safeguarding and Operational Risk Management. He also leads cross-cutting initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

Mr. Chu joined CHAI in 2009, starting as the Deputy Country Director in Nigeria. He later took on the role of Senior Regional Program Director for Southeast Asia, where he successfully facilitated the development of new programs across Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, and Vietnam. As Executive Vice President of Vaccines and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Mr. Chu spearheaded efforts to improve immunization coverage, playing a key role in negotiating vaccine price reductions that resulted in over $1 billion in procurement savings for governments and global partners. He also led the development of CHAI’s newest programs for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of non-communicable diseases and expanded the use of assistive technologies for individuals with disabilities.

Before joining CHAI, Joshua held various key roles, including managing Singapore Airlines’ multi-billion dollar investment and fuel hedging portfolio. His extensive professional experience spans work in China, Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore, the United States, and Zambia.

Mr. Chu earned his BS in Economics and BA in Middle Eastern and Asian Studies (summa cum laude) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He later obtained an MPhil in Development Studies (with distinction) from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, as a Maxis Scholar.
